On November 15, 2006, the National Park Service will be hosting a one-day symposium that will kick-off a national dialogue in determining the future use, appearance and landscape of the National Mall. Join a rotating panel of experts from around the country in this first-of-its-kind conversation that will cover a variety of issues. The National Mall has been the stage for many historic events, and it continues to serve as our national stage. Come learn about its significance, and participate in a discussion that will help shape its future.
Future of the National Mall SymposiumThe National Mall symbolizes our nation and our freedoms – its appearance should reflect its value. With 25 million people using the Mall each year, that’s a big challenge. The Future of the National Mall Symposium will inform the public about the growing number of issues facing the National Mall. A panel of experts will discuss possible solutions for how the National Mall can be preserved and cared for while meeting the needs of those who use it. The public is invited to learn, participate, and provide their ideas and feedback.
Plan to attend as a range of relevant issues will be discussed throughout the day including, supporting the needs of tourists, recreational sport leagues, festivals and other events. The Symposium will touch upon a variety of topics as a way to begin a conversation that will ultimately define how this American treasure can successfully meet the needs of the public while also surviving into the next century.
