Alot of people have asked me why dckickball.com redirects to worldkickball.com. Obviously, this is a confusing and disconcerting experience for someone trying to get to this site, to the point that many people have registered for another kickball organization by accident.
Anyway, back in the day (August 25th, 2004) the idea for DCKickball was born. I created a new page (dubbed DCKickball) and placed it on my wiki. Over the next couple of weeks, I pointed people to that page and updated it with all kinds of stream of consiousness thoughts about what the perfect kickball organization would look like.
Anyway, just one month later, someone swooped in and bought dckickball.COM and set-up it up to point to another kickball organization. Bummer!
Anyway, once I got the permits for the fields this past February and decided to do this for real, I decided that I liked the DCKickball name so much that I decided it was OK to just have the DOT ORG. Who knows, maybe they ll sell me the DOT COM? (Trying to hold in laughter)
Here is the final draft of the 2005 DCKickball player s packet (pdf). If you have any comments about the rules or regulations, please leave a comment here. Every player is responsible for reading through the packet and understanding the guidelines for participating in DCKickball. Captains are responsible for making sure their players sign the Sign-In Form and the Waiver and Release . These signed documents must be submitted to DCKickball prior to the start of the season.
Any changes to this document will be reviewed by the Board and voted on. Feedback is welcome!
Oh, and I d be remiss not to thank Larry Betz of the Little Rock Kickball Association for allow us to use his rules as a primer!

It s official. The legendary Tom Tom Bar and Restaurant will be DCKickball s sponsor bar! With a handshake agreement in place and a menu of specials being worked out, I hope you are all as excited as I am. Tom Tom is located right on 18th St in Adams Morgan, has ample space, and has outdoor seating for those amazing summer evenings.
More information for you guys once I have it!
DCKickball will be placing its t-shirt order very soon. Please make sure your profile indicates the correct size.
ALSO. Although XXL was not on the drop-down of choices on the registration, we will be placing XXL orders. If you want a XXL, all you need to do is log-in to your account and change the t-shirt size to XX (no quotes).
DCKicball is officially open for business. To pay with PayPal, simply log-in to your account and click on the PayPal link on your profile page.
To pay with a check, make it out for $50 and payable to DCKickball. Please provide this check to your captain.
Payments need to be collected as soon as possible. Tshirts need to be ordered and pre-season parties need to be planned! So don t slack, let s get the ball rolling!
Now that registration is ending and teams are coalescing, it’s time for DCKickball to kick it up a notch. Like any good 501©(3) non-profit, we will be forming a Board of Directors. The board along with myself (El Presidente) will run the league. Initially, the Board will consist of the following Chairs:
That’s it for now. Expect more positions to open up. Remember, board members play for free! If you have an interest in being on the board, please send me an email that conveys what you think you can bring to DCKickball and what ideas you have for helping run the league this summer.
I want to stress: helping run this league is going to be great fun and very rewarding, but it will involve real work. If you’re a very busy person and don’t have much spare time in a given week, this might not be for you.
P.S. Captains may not be board members. It’s just too much work to do both.
Heard about it from a friend: 69.7%
Noticed a post on Craigslist: 2.6%
Saw a flyer: 9.2%
Read about it in my alumni newsletter: 1.3%
Other (please specify) 17.1%
Some funny “other” comments:
I saw it on your website but I found my team on CL….so CL does work
sleeping with the organizer
Saw peeps on the street in t-shirts
The last one is funny since we don’t have t-shirts yet.
The registration fee for DCKickball is $50. We will accept payment in three forms: PayPal, check, and cash. Cash and check payments will be collected by your team captain. These are the 16 official teams of the 2005 summer season. Individual players and small groups will be folded into these teams shortly, so stay tuned!
The official registration period for DCKickball has closed down. Currently, the only team accepting registrations is “Blue Steal”. Stay tuned for information about supplemental registration during the month of April.
Sometime tonight, in between me getting wasted and Morales defeating Pac-man by decision in Las Vegas, DCKickball s 300th member, Lisa Edwards, signed up. Let s have a round of applause, por favor!
DCKickball. It s the new hotness, ya heard?!?
We re experiencing some technical difficulties with log-in. Please bear with us.
Captains, if you d like to know what your player count is, just shoot me an email.
Also, I am missing the contact information for:
Lydia Munger,
Ted Eastwick,
Rashard Raigns,
Scott Carter
If this is you (or you know them), send me an email.
The DCist has discovered DCKickball! Very cool article featuring us, District Sports, and the Congressional Softball league.
Here are some preliminary results from the DCKickball registration survey:
I m honestly pretty surprised. I would have thought CL would have been a gold mine for DCKickball. I m also stunned by the lack of traffic the article in my alumni (W&M) newsletter generated. Anyway, just goes to show that the best advertising is word of mouth!
(Notable exception: The Going Out Gurus. You guys kick ass!)
So, I m looking into several places for our DCKickball t-shirt order. Anyone have any suggestions? Places you liked, places you didn t like? Also, any comments from players or potential players on what you d like would be great. In order to avoid the unfortunate pink, mauve, or light grey vs. lighter grey arguments we ve had in the past, I m thinking of getting a simpler and limited set of colors, and then allow the teams to customize them to their hearts content. Any objections?
Alot of people have been asking me about the situation with Walter Pierce Park and the permit situation. At the moment (according to the Department of Parks and Recreation website) DCKickball is the only kickball organization permitted to play on Walter Pierce this summer. You can see this information for yourself here. I will have a copy of DCKickball s permit up on the website ASAP.
