All-Star Game and Fall Farewell posted by crabasa on October 24th

Here’s an email from a kickballer (who will remain nameless). Subject line was please shoot me:
I want to die.

I threw up last night. TWICE. Who does that on a Monday night? Seriously.

I’m about to steal a chair and go find a broom closet. You think I’m kidding, but I’ve never been more serious in my life.

Yes, that is the joy of binge drinking following an All-Star Game. Check out all the pictures here.

Help Determine the Future of Your National Mall! posted by crabasa on October 18th

The National Park Service is undertaking a major planning effort to improve how you experience the National Mall and needs your input.

On November 15, 2006, the National Park Service will be hosting a one-day symposium that will kick-off a national dialogue in determining the future use, appearance and landscape of the National Mall. Join a rotating panel of experts from around the country in this first-of-its-kind conversation that will cover a variety of issues. The National Mall has been the stage for many historic events, and it continues to serve as our national stage. Come learn about its significance, and participate in a discussion that will help shape its future.

Future of the National Mall Symposium
  • November 15, 2006
  • 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Naval Heritage Center (Metro: Archives/Navy Memorial)
  • 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

The National Mall symbolizes our nation and our freedoms – its appearance should reflect its value. With 25 million people using the Mall each year, that’s a big challenge. The Future of the National Mall Symposium will inform the public about the growing number of issues facing the National Mall. A panel of experts will discuss possible solutions for how the National Mall can be preserved and cared for while meeting the needs of those who use it. The public is invited to learn, participate, and provide their ideas and feedback.

Plan to attend as a range of relevant issues will be discussed throughout the day including, supporting the needs of tourists, recreational sport leagues, festivals and other events. The Symposium will touch upon a variety of topics as a way to begin a conversation that will ultimately define how this American treasure can successfully meet the needs of the public while also surviving into the next century.

To learn more about the Symposium, its agenda, and how to make your voice heard, please visit www.nps.gov/nationalmallplan after November 1, 2006.

It's Not Over! posted by crabasa on October 16th

Well AdMo, you might think it’s all over, but guess again! We have one last casual kickball game left! It’ll be next Monday (10/23) night at Stead Park. Nothing official, nothing serious. Just one last chance for you to ease out of kickball and not just go cold turkey (mmmm, turkey). Come out and root for your fellow teammates in a Monday night versus Wednesday night All-Star game involving all 16 teams!

Following the All-Star Game, we will close-out the Fall with a final happy hour at Tom Tom. Details are being worked out as we speak. Still have those raffle tickets stuffed in your pockets from the EOS Party? HOLD ON TO THEM! We will pick-up the raffle where we left off and end the Fall in a frenzy of kickball, flip-cup, drinking and prizes! See you there!

Super Saturday posted by crabasa on October 10th

DC Kickballers!

=== Playoffs are THIS weekend ===

That’s right! You’ve been rehoning your elementary school skillz these past few months and now you’ll be able to show it all off at one last, kickball extravaganza! The kickball playoff games will be THIS Saturday, the 14th, on the National Mall. First round games will start promptly at 10 AM. It is highly encouraged that teams get to the fields by 9:30 to warm up, hydrate, set your lineups, and whatnot.

Here’s how it’ll work:

  • 10:00am: Round 1a (5th place vs 12th, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, and 8 vs 9)
  • 10:45am: Round 1b (1st place vs 16th, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, and 4 vs 13)
  • 11:30am: Round 2
  • 12:15pm – 1:00pm: Lunch Break
  • 1:00pm-1:45pm: Round 3 (Final Four)
  • 1:45pm-2:30pm: Round 4 (Championship)

Pop your team’s place into the above schedule and there you have it. Viola! The full playoff bracket will be on the website shortly.

Please be aware the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on the National Mall. The US Park Police will give you a citation if you are caught. Please practice good judgement.

=== Refs ===

To be able to pull this Saturday off, we will need ALL the refs who have volunteered this season to make it out to the fields early, especially if you are reffing the 10:00 games. Essentially, if your own game doesn’t start until 10:45, we will need you to ref the early 10:00 games. Those playing during the 10 AM game will then ref the 10:45 game. Basically, same thing we’ve been doing all season. We’ll send you a separate email later this week about which games you’ll be reffing. To thank you for your assistance, we will provide submarine sandwiches during the lunch break to all reffing volunteers!

=== End of Season BASH ===

For those that haven’t figured it out yet, the playoffs and the EOS Party are on the same night. Yes, it’s THIS Saturday, the 14th. Whew! This will be a MASSIVE party you won’t want to miss. It’ll be your last chance to mingle with the rest of the league and finally talk to that hot girl or cute guy you’ve been building the courage to approach all season. The drama!

Here are the details.

Location: RnR Bar and Lounge (www.rnrdc.com)
Address: 717 6th Street NW
Date: Saturday, Oct 14th
Time: 8:30 pm – 12:30 am
Cost: $5 for you, $20 for friends
What: OPEN BAR, man!

RnR is located a block from the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro which holds the yellow, green, AND red lines. Score. If you’re driving, there’s a 24 hour parking garage across the street from the venue. Score, again.

As an added bonus, because it was such a blast partying with them during the Flip Cup Tournament, we’re throwing down again with the Capital Division of DC Kickball! DOUBLE the amount of kickballers, and you haven’t even started drinking yet! This party will be one for the books, yo! Everywhere you look, they’ll be DC Kickballers dressed to kill, dancing and lounging on 3 floors and an outdoor rooftop, weather permitting. Holy smokes, Dr. Jones! Feel free to invite all your non-DC Kickball friends to show ‘em what they’ve been missing.

Have a good week, and we’ll see everyone this Saturday!

Kickballers!

We’re coming to the close of DC Kickballs first fall Capital Division season and to finish things off we have some make up games, the playoffs and the end of season party.

Make-up Games

Some teams have makeup games this week. Check the schedule on the website to see if you are playing. Games will start at 6:15pm. We need some extra help umping this week since the majority of umps come from the BBC team – who plays both nights. Please volunteer if you can. Captains, make sure you post your scores asap so we can put the bracket together for Saturday.

Playoffs

The following playof schedule has been set up for Saturday. We will have the brackets available on Friday. Please try to get to the fields by 9:30 – so we can start on time.

10:00am:

Round 1a (5th place vs 12th place, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, and 8 vs 9) 10:45am:

Round 1b (1st place vs 16th place, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, and 4 vs 13) 11:30am:

Round 2 12:15pm – 1:00pm: Lunch Break 1:00pm-1:45pm: Round 3 (Final Four) 1:45pm-2:30pm: Round 4 (Championship)

Refs – we’ll need a lot of help this weekend. Please let Marc England mrcengland@aol.com know if you will be at the playoffs to help ref.

End of Season Party

Get your party clothes on people because it’s going to be a night like no other. Thanks to party girl Laura T. and Carter’s credit card you get to drink at RNR Bar, 717 6th Street, NW from 8:30 to 12:30pm for $5 and just $20 for guests. That’s right open bar. Flip cup on the roof deck until 10 or so and beer pong on the second floor. Wanna dance? Then boogy to the dj on floors two and three. Added bonus? Yep – the Adams Morgan division will be joining us. Reminders – take care of your bartenders and per Chris at the RNR – flip flops are not allowed.
